The Project

Picture
_  Our goal is to teach and inspire K-12 students about our natural environment and provide practical ways to sustain it. At the same time, we hope to inspire adults to change their habits and incorporate recycling, re-using, reducing and other sustainable practices into our daily lives.

The project starts with teachers/schools registering on the website. The teachers then receive via email  a series of grade appropriate lessons and activities to use with their students. These lessons revolve around environmental education, sustainability concepts and easy  ways to incorporate recycling, re-using and reducing into their and their family's daily lives. Upon completion of 4-6 lessons/activities, teachers then receive a class set of canvas shopping bags and special fabric paint. Students then illustrate one side of the bag with a message that they learned about our environment from the previous unit of study.

The finished bags are then sold in a participating retailer's stores, with all of the proceeds going back to each school to support science education.

How it works...

If you are a teacher, parent, school leader or community member and wish to have the BagSpeak project in your local school, simply fill out the registration form on the "Teachers and Schools" page. We will inquire about the possibility of bringing the project to your community and be in touch. This project is free-of-charge for all schools, the only obligation is the teaching of lessons on environmental education and sustainability.  BagSpeak receives funding from partnering retailers, foundations and grants. (BagSpeak is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.)

If you know of a retailer, business or organization in your community that may be interested in supporting the project,  please contact Mitch at: Mitch@BagSpeak.org.
