Spring 2008 Pilot Project with Whole Foods Inc.
in 12 NYC Public Schools
Thanks to a generous donation by Whole Foods Inc. of NYC and by the support of the
teachers and principals of our 12 pilot schools, 1000 student illustrated re-usable
canvas shopping bags were produced. The bags went go on sale at the five Manhattan
Whole Foods Stores during the middle of September 2008 and sold out by December!
The project raised enough funds for some of the participating schools to receive back a
student evironmental education program by the Council on the Environment of NYC
and for seed money to be set aside for the next phase.
Participating Schools included:
1. Urban Science Academy, Bronx (5-8)
2. Institute for Environmental Learning, Bronx (K-8)
3. The Bronx School of Science Inquiry and Investigation, Bronx (6-8)
4. The Nostrand School, Brooklyn (3-5)
5. Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation, Bronx (6-8)
6. Isaac Newton Middle School for math and Science, Manhattan (6-8)
